TENDINOPATHY

TENDINOPATHY:

Tendons are a thick, tough cord of dense white fibrous connective tissue that unites a muscle with bone and transmits the force which the muscle exerts. Due to the high load stress of tendons require, they are very susceptible to injuries, which are known as tendinopathies.

Commonly affected tendons are ones that are involved with highly mobile joints due to overuse. When a tendon becomes inflamed, especially with use, it can become painful. Many people experience severe life-impacting pain and physical limitations due to this condition. Tendinopathies have many different origins and presentations and should always be evaluated by a medical professional.

Symptoms

Pain | Dull/Achy | Tightness/Stiffness | Swelling

Burning | Loss of normal range of motion

Illustration of the categorizations of tendinopathies demonstrated on the achilles tendon, a very common location of injury.
