HYPERMOBILITY

HYPERMOBILITY:

Hypermobility of a joint is when it can move beyond its normal range of motion. While hypermobility can have a genetic component, it can also arise from overtraining in activities that require a high demand for repetitive flexibility.  Hypermobility, especially chronic, stretches ligaments, tendons, and joint capsules beyond their natural limit leading to loss of motor control of the joint. This over demand can generate a variety of injuries, due to the denaturing of healthy joint integrity.

While not everyone with hypermobility has pain, many people experience severe life-impacting pain and physical limitations due to this condition. Hypermobility has many different origins and presentations and should always be evaluated by a medical professional.
