GAIT DISORDERS

Gait:

GAIT is the pattern of movement of the limbs during locomotion. It requires function and stability across every joint, ligament, and muscle in the body.  GAIT can be categorized into two main phases, stance, and swing.  These phases can be even further divided into subphases such as propulsion, shift, transition, and strike, which all have unique essential characteristics.

GAIT is something we take for granted, but something most of us do not do correctly. Often, sedentary lifestyles, poor exercise form, history of injuries, and postural dysfunctions alter our GAIT and create a variety of problems.  GAIT analysis is a helpful tool in identifying issues throughout the entire body.

Whether you are recovering from an injury (tear, surgery, scar tissue, aging) preparing for a big race, or just looking to improve your everyday life, GAIT analysis can help. GAIT abnormalities have many different origins and presentations and should always be evaluated by a medical professional.

Modern lifestyle has impacted our evolutionary progression of bipedal movement.
